The McAlister / Chilton small group came out this past Saturday. Thanks again and always to them for their service in the garden. Thank you especially to Carmen McAlister for organizing their service.
Here is their report from the garden, with some comments from me in red – “We watered, weeded and fertilized. Yes! Thank You! A few handfuls of green beans I wonder if the mutant green bean plants are finally slowing down production? That would be OK with me, those things were kind of freaking me out with their amazing fruit bearing / lack of concern for self (uhhhh, Hold up. Are those bush green bean plants a model for Christian life? Is that what is weird about them? Are they testifying beans?) and 4 cherry tomatoes were harvested. Our first tomatoes of the year, Hallelujah! 3 families were able to come out and help and we ate afterwards. That is what we are talking about! They worked together and then ate together. Sounds like something Jesus and his disciples would do, and that is pretty good company. The garden looked great Thanks! That is because the garden is awesome (a core value) and blessed“
Here are some photographs they sent in -
Look at these happy people -
And see the harvest (real, not metaphorical) -
What is yet to be -
The Friesen small group is coming out in force this Saturday. I am going to work them like a bunch of borrowed mules. Only, with this group, the borrowed mules mostly stand around and socialize. That’s the way it goes with borrowed livestock of any kind, I guess. You have to think there is a reason they are available to be borrowed on a Saturday morning without much notice.
Anyways, they will come out and we will pray, work (after a fashion) and have a great time. We will stand in awe of the example set before us by the green beans. Then we will go over to the always hospitable Friesen house and have brunch. Seth has promised to make us all Bellinis, which will not go very far in confirming the masculinity of our group. But the wives will be happy, which counts for something. Good thinking, Seth!
